Description: At Bernie Grundman Mastering, engineer Mike Bozzie will introduce you to the specialist center and its equipment, then talk about his professional background, musical influences and mentor Brian Gardener.

He talks about achieving palatability in modern mastering, common problems with the resulting mixes, mixing tips, mastering individual tracks and albums, sampling rate, bit depth, dual mono operation, his monitoring system, external equipment and signal path. He then masters three tracks of hip-hop, trap and R&B artists Kendrick Lamar and SZA. In each case, he criticizes the mix, compares the overall loudness for comparison, and proceeds to mastering, constantly comparing A / B to the unmastered version. He talks about precise EQ changes, de-essing, soft saturation and limiting, and explains why he barely uses compression or stereo expansion. He also comments on streaming platform algorithms and mastering for various formats.
