Landscape photographs offer beautifully designed compositions that artists can use as the basis for abstract art.

In today's class we'll look at a photo of an interesting scene from the Cog Railway, Mt Washington, New Hampshire, USA. The image offers interesting depth of layers; from the blue sky, railway cars, and mountains in the distance, that we can use as an inspiration piece.

We'll examine the image, then create a simple pencil sketch. From there, we'll b painting layers that capture "something" about the photo that makes it unique. It could be the color, shape, or even the size of the object. In order to truly express something that intrigues us in the photo, we'll focus on two types of boundaries for the shapes: blurry and sharp.

From there, we'll add some final abstract touches that will unite the objects that impress us, to create a cohesive painting.
