Description
MATLAB is a powerful programming language specifically designed for data manipulation and analyses using advanced mathematics and statistics. It provides an extensive built-in library for applying all sorts of simple and advanced mathematical, numerical and statistical methods.
Learning a new programming language can be a daunting task. It can take months (or years) until you master a programming language, which results in many students quitting or losing interest. But it doesn't need to be that way. Our experience with students over the years has shown that the best learning experiences are when students get involved in real-world projects of their interest. Instead of going through hours and hours of lectures covering all the awesome things you can do in MATLAB (or any programming language for that matter), we believe that providing very solid foundations on syntax, programming logic, and troubleshooting is all the students need to be able to become independent programmers and tackle any problem.
We designed and prepared this course having this mind. The course consists of five lectures with an average duration of 30 min each (2.5 hours in total) where you'll learn everything you need to know to start mastering MATLAB and advance your data analysis.
The course instructor has many years of experience (academic and private sector) in different programming languages, including MATLAB, Python, C++ and Fortran. He has designed this course in a way that condensates everything that beginners, or more advanced programmers in other computer languages, need to know to get going in MATLAB and quickly start exploring data efficiently and comprehensively. MATLAB provides several built-in functions that make complex mathematical, numerical and statistical analyses quickly accessible to everyone. We'll cover from the basic concepts, all the way to more advanced topics.
By the end of the course, you'll know the basic syntax of MATLAB and important concepts ubiquitous to programming, which make it so powerful for automating data manipulation tasks. We will go through many critical build-in functions for importing, analyzing and visualizing data. Navigating real-world code can be a challenging task, especially for large and complex projects. You'll learn how to approach such projects, as well as several resources to debug your code. In the last lecture, we will apply the knowledge acquired to write our own script to analyze real data. By then, you'll have all you need to be an independent programmer in MATLAB.
