Description
AWS Step Functions is a powerful yet easy to use server-less orchestration service. Step Functions is a state machine under the hood, and its primary abstractions are termed states. A Step Functions configuration contains a visual representation of all potential steps and their transitions.

Step Functions lets you co-ordinate not only other AWS functions but also your external distributed systems. Use nested workflows to build larger workflows using smaller dependent or independent steps. Schedule and monitor your recurring workflows using a combination of AWS CloudWatch and Step Functions.

We will learn about the main use cases of Step Functions -

Data ETLs- With AWS Step Functions, you can automate extract-transform-load (ETL) scripts that move data between your applications and your data warehouse.

Data Processing- Other types of data processing can also benefit from AWS Step Functions, particularly if both the source and destination are within AWS. This can include data verification, data cleaning, removing of duplicates, null values etc.

Server-less workflow orchestration- The primary benefit of AWS Step Functions is the ease with which applications requiring the interconnection of several Server-less functions may be orchestrated. Run functions in parallel or sequence. You can ever have a manager give manual approval via SNS into the workflow.
