Autodesk 3ds Max 2025.1 with Updated Extensions (X64)

Autodeskhas announced the release of3ds Max 2025.1, the latest version of its 3D modeling and rendering software. Aside from a new Turbulent Color Noise OSL shader, they're primarily workflow updates, improving the Array and Boolean modifiers, and streamlining skin weight painting.
What's new in 3ds Max 2025.1


3D modeling and layout: updates to the Boolean and Array modifiers
- For procedural modeling, the Boolean modifier gets several workflow improvements for volume meshing. It is now possible to use keyboard shortcuts to control the sensitivity of the Voxel Size spinner arrows; and to abort volume meshing by hitting [Esc].
- The Array modifier, used to create 3D arrays of objects, now supports animation of random number seeds, and processes "up to 250%" faster.


Shading: new Turbulent Color Noise OSL shader
- 3ds Max's OSL toolset gets a new Turbulent Color Noise shader for mimicking natural phenomena like oil films, or creating more abstract rainbow effects.


Character rigging: more precise control over skin weights
- Character artists get new parameters for Paint Weights in the Skin Modifier. The change makes using [Shift] + [Alt] to adjust painting strength for skin weights – described as previously having been "oversensitive" – easier to control.


Rendering and pipeline integration: OIDN denoising enabled by default in Arnold
The integration plugins for Autodesk's Arnold renderer and Substance materials have also been updated.
- MAXtoA 5.7.1.1 enables OIDN denoising in Arnold by default, adds snapshot functionality to the Arnold RenderView, and makes the RenderView dockable. It also supports the new functionality from Arnold 7.3.1.
- Substance for 3ds Max 3.0 adds support for the Substance 3D Connector, Adobe's new open-source framework for transferring data between DCC applications.

Animation
- Fixed a rare crash when trying to display the Position XYZ controllers rollout in the motion panel. MAXX-76821

Color Management
- Color picker HWBt section now respects the Scene/Display toggle.
- HWBt ramps will also have the warning indicators similar to other ramps in the picker. MAXX-76925
- Custom colors added to the object color palette are now properly color managed in all color management modes. Please note that this palette can hold colors only in the sRGB gamut. MAXX-76265

Core
- 3dsmax.assert.log and DebugOutputString.Log were attempted to be created in 3dsmax root folder, but if root folder was under C:\Program Files creation of these files would fail. In this case, these files are stored to appdata instead (for example C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2025 - 64bit\ENU\Network\DebugOutputString.Log). MAXX-76826

- File / Summary Info now shows ellipsed node name if node name > 25 characters, object type name clamping is increased to 12 characters, if do Save to File the file contains unclamped node and object type names. MAXX-73792

- When resizing maxscript listener window, and macro recorder output section was minimized by sliding separator bar up, don't expand macro recorder output section. Did general cleanup of separator bar handling so that at least a sliver of macro recorder or editor windows are always visible. Give consistent look with non 100% dpi scaling. MAXX-76199
- Reviewed the print method of all classes, and implemented 'print_all_elements' logic where applicable. Modeling
- Resolved a crash that could occur the user attempted to apply the interactive Chamfer tool, or a Chamfer operation (found in the Edit Poly modifier, or Editable Poly base class) to a isolated Vertex MAXX-76911
- Resolved an issue with the Face Extrude modifier where it could cause 3ds Max to crash when reopening a file where this modifier was applied and was sending data up the Modifier Stack for other modifiers to utilize MAXX-77009
- Resolved a crash which would occur if the user had an animated symmetry modifier gizmo/plane and then applied the Array modifier on top of the result. This result would generate messy geometry and eventually crash as the animation timeline was adjusted. MAXX-76710
- Resolved an issue where the state of the Shell modifier was not being properly saved. MAXX-76716
